Boating in Nebraska can include diverse experiences. While plenty of people in the Omaha area hop over to Iowa for some of the lakes, you can find amazing locations within Nebraska itself. Between the rivers and the lakes, there is no shortage of places to take your boat.
Missouri River The Missouri River is one of the best options for boating experiences in Nebraska. The river offers a wide range of experiences from fast currents to fishing nooks and everything in between. If you want to avoid Omaha crowds, head north. Traffic gets lighter north of Sioux City, and the water quality is often better.
Lake McConaughy If you’re looking for a diverse lake experience, Lake McConaughy is the largest in the state, and there are so many things to do. You can fish, ski, jet ski, and even scuba dive. The large lake has plenty of white sand beaches for a good time. YOu can find picnic areas and a whole lot more. It’s a great place to get away for the whole weekend, and even though it’s popular, it’s large enough that you can usually find spots away from the crowds.
Pibel Lake Pibel Lake offers a completely different experience. This is a smaller lake hidden in the Sandhills. Wake boating is prohibited across the entire lake, so this is not the place to go skiing and jetting. Instead, this is an amazing place for a scenic outing, enjoying wildlife, and doing some light fishing. There are rarely any crowds, so if you’re looking to get away and relax on your boat, this is the spot.
Lewis and Clark Lake Lewis and Clark Lake takes an opposite approach. While some lakes give you a rugged outing in nature, Lewis and Clark Lake has all of the fun amenities. Aside from the full range of boating adventures, you can step off the boat to go horseback riding, play a round of golf, or grab a bite to eat. Naturally, this lake does draw crowds for all of the amenities in the most popular times of the year, but it’s a wonderful location for a good time.
