The Ocean Cruiser 42, designed by Hank Hinckley, is a remarkable bluewater vessel built for long-distance sailing. Its elegant lines and thoughtfully crafted interior feature two separate entrances, providing an airy and spacious environment. The cabinetry is expertly designed to slide out and secure in place, enhancing functionality. With an aft cockpit and cabin, a striking dark blue Awlgrip hull from 1994, and beautifully maintained teak decks and cockpit installed in 2008, this boat is both stylish and practical. The hull is constructed with hand-laid fiberglass and an Airex core, while the deck is made of end-grain balsa for added strength. The cabins are well insulated, accommodating up to 5 people in 2 cabins, or 6 if the aft starboard berth is utilized as a double. The interior showcases satin varnished ash finishes (revarnished in 2009) and a teak/holly cabin sole. With 12 opening ports, 4 dorado vents, 2 hatches, and 1 companionway, the boat is designed for optimal ventilation. A comprehensive interior refit was completed in 1999/2000, converting the port side/main cabin into extra storage or an office space, with most cabinets featuring secure 'aircraft rated' latches. The main salon includes a large fold-out table alongside a smaller cockpit table. Recent upgrades include a bottom sanding down to the gelcoat, followed by 5 coats of barrier coat and 4 coats of ablative anti-fouling paint completed in 2022, although it may need fresh paint soon. The masts were removed, painted, and reinstalled with new standing rigging (1x19 with Norseman cones and Sta-Lok swageless terminals) and new running rigging (New England Sta-Set). Additional improvements include a new stainless steel exhaust manifold crafted in St. Augustine, a new starter motor, and a new macerator pump for the sink (scheduled for 2026), along with a new water pump for the fridge (also 2026). The DC air conditioner, installed in 2025 for $1200, operates efficiently between 350 to 900 watts and can run for about 10 to 24 hours on the house bank. It features three Li Time 12.8V 230Ah LiFePO4 lithium batteries and extensive Victron electrical upgrades, including a 3k watt inverter charger, Lynx distributor, DC shunt, and remote communication system, along with multiple SmartSolar charge controllers. Two bi-facial 340W solar panels will be installed, alongside a 100W flexible solar panel on the dodger (2026). The boat is also equipped with new winch covers, a windlass cover, and a new bimini and dodger with covers (all in 2026). Additional features include a reverse osmosis water maker, a GARMIN chartplotter with depth finder, a GARMIN windex (in box, requires installation), and a new wind turbine (in box, requires installation).
