ELIDA is a remarkable vessel with a rich international history, having proudly sailed under four different flags: Norway, Bermuda, the USA, and Canada. Built in 1937, just a year after the first hull of her kind was completed, she was an active participant in the inaugural fleet in Norway until 1943. During World War II, two Norwegian sailors used ELIDA to escape the German Occupation, facing danger as they were fired upon by a German U-boat. Fortunately, they sought refuge in the bow and stern, avoiding injury despite the boat sustaining several hits. After patching her up, they successfully reached Wick, Scotland. ELIDA returned to Norway three years later, where she resumed her racing endeavors. In 1955, she was sold and transported to Bermuda, where she adopted sail number 10 and raced with the local fleet until 1973. The boat was then acquired by a Canadian naval officer who relocated her to Halifax, Canada. In 1992, ELIDA underwent a meticulous reconstruction that adhered to her original specifications, overseen by the class's technical committee, and this restoration was featured in Wooden Boat Magazine. Since then, she has been based in Chester, Nova Scotia, where she continues to race in the local fleet, having been meticulously maintained to remain a competitive force.
