Boat Description

The Morgan 382, designed by Ted Brewer, features a classic teardrop-shaped hull, a wide beam, a subtle reverse transom, and extended overhangs, embodying the essence of a vintage racing boat while being built as a comfortable cruiser. Produced by Morgan Yachts and its successor, Catalina-Morgan, from 1977 to 1986, nearly 500 units, including the later models 383 and 384, have been crafted and are cherished by owners who have sailed them to various destinations. This boat boasts a visually appealing and well-balanced design, with a low cabin trunk and 6-inch bulwarks that maintain a sleek profile. Weighing over 17,000 pounds and measuring 30 feet 6 inches at the waterline, the Morgan 382 falls into the heavy-displacement category, yet its elongated fin keel, skeg-attached rudder, and rounded bilge ensure it is not a sluggish cruiser. Inside, the all-wood interior provides ample space and storage. The starboard double quarter berth serves as a seat for the navigation area, with a spacious and efficient galley located opposite. The saloon features an L-shaped settee that comfortably seats two at the drop-leaf table, while the starboard side includes a wide settee and a narrow pilot berth. The head is generously sized and includes a fully enclosed shower, although the V-berth is somewhat compact due to the boat's fine entry. Key features include a rebuilt Perkins 4.108 diesel motor with only 1300 hours, a Ray Marine EV 200 autopilot less than five years old, and a custom-installed Edson brass rudder post clamp mechanism valued at $650. Additionally, it has a hydraulic autopilot control arm with a feedback sensor and computer for compass navigation. The mainsail is in excellent condition, while the 160 genoa shows some wear. Significant maintenance includes a complete bottom restoration in 2020, topside hull paint completed in 2022, and the installation of six new port lights in 2021. The galley glass needs replacement, and the boat has seen recent upgrades such as a new raw water pump and a Rule bilge pump installed in 2023. The rudder post was repacked in 2023, and the prop shaft stuffing box was repacked in 2022. The fuel system was thoroughly flushed, and the tank was cleaned in 2022. The standing rigging, replaced and upsized in 2010, remains in excellent condition, and the ground tackle was upgraded in 2020 with a Delta 44 anchor.
