Presenting the 2010 Hylas 70 Center Cockpit, showcased at the Annapolis Sailboat Show by David Walters Yachts. This flagship vessel, designed by the renowned Frers, is a remarkable blend of elegance and functionality. Built to ABS standards, it features a robust aramid reinforced hull, a solid lead keel, and watertight compartments, ensuring she's ready for ocean crossings and extended living aboard. The shoal draft version, Shearwater, with a draft of just 7' 3”, allows access to areas that larger yachts often can’t reach, from the Chesapeake rivers to the shallow Bahamian banks. Since her acquisition in late 2022, she has undergone an extensive refit, including a new Yanmar 250 HP diesel engine with only 75 hours, a 1,890Ah lithium house bank powered by 864 watts of solar energy, and a fully refurbished mast by Annapolis Rigging. She boasts a new Quantum mainsail and a complete Raymarine electronics package, alongside a new bow thruster and a 24V watermaker. All electrical work meets ABYC standards, with references available upon request. Inside, her generous 18-foot beam accommodates four cabins and four heads with luxurious finishes of teak, bamboo, and Corian. Despite her impressive size, Shearwater is easy to operate, equipped with hydraulic winches and push-button controls for the main, furling genoa, staysail, and windlass. The main sail neatly stows in its Stack Pack, and both the vang and backstay are adjustable from the cockpit. Joystick controls for the bow thruster at both helms simplify docking. Designed for an owner/operator couple, the yacht also features an aft guest cabin with an en-suite head for a hired captain or crew during longer voyages. At anchor, the lithium power bank, solar array, and DC watermaker ensure refrigeration and tank replenishment without relying heavily on the generator.
