Introducing Alora, a stunning German Frers-designed Bluewater Cutter, currently showcased at the Annapolis Sailboat Show with David Walters Yachts. Built in 2017, this late model Hylas 56 features a center cockpit and is crafted by Queen Long Marine in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Renowned designer German Frers, famous for his work with Nautor’s Swans and Hallberg-Rassys, has endowed the Hylas 56 with a long waterline, a secure cockpit, and a spacious owner’s stateroom at the stern. Her robust hull is built from hand-laid fiberglass and Twaron aramid without coring, ensuring durability, and she carries a substantial 20,020 lbs of external lead ballast on a fin keel with a bulb, all while having her rudder shielded by a partial skeg. Recognized as Cruising World’s Best Premium Cruiser Over 55 Feet in the 2011 Boat of the Year awards, this vessel is outfitted with a fractional cutter rig, featuring a Selden keel-stepped mast, electric in-mast furling for the main sail, a Furlex furler for the 115% genoa, and a removable inner stay for a hank-on staysail. The sailing experience is further enhanced with five electric Antal winches out of eight, while the windlass, winches, and main furling can all be controlled from the cockpit with ease, making it a breeze for a couple to manage. Below deck, Alora boasts three cabins and two heads, each equipped with a shower stall and finished in elegant varnished teak. Alora received a comprehensive refit during the winter of 2024/25 at Yacht Marin in Marmaris, Turkey, which included a fresh repaint of her black topsides, refinishing the aft deck in Awlcraft, polishing the hull and deck, and a meticulous sanding and application of two coats of Micron 66 on the bottom. Additionally, she has had her Yanmar and Northern Lights serviced, along with all winches, the windlass, seacocks, and the Furlex system, while the fuel tanks were cleaned. New features include a bimini, dodger, full cockpit enclosure, cockpit cushions, as well as new sheets, halyards, and furling lines, plus a freshly serviced liferaft.
