"THIS OLD HATT" has undergone a complete transformation from the keel up, expertly rebuilt by the esteemed boat builder and renovation specialist Tom Slane in 1991, with ongoing enhancements made until 2026, including a fresh coat of Alexseal Off White paint. As the son of the Hatteras founder, Slane was tasked with restoring this iconic 53c Hatteras to a 'like new' state. His team meticulously stripped the interior down to the stringers and rebuilt it using light oak, creating three staterooms, two heads, a modern galley, and a spacious salon. No shortcuts were taken in the restoration of "THIS OLD HATT"; the entire plumbing and electrical systems have been completely updated. The engines have also been rebuilt, boosting horsepower by 35% over the standard 650hp. Since the overhaul, the port engine has about 80 hours of use, while the starboard engine has around 475 hours. The Flybridge has been entirely reimagined, featuring a custom helm console. With the addition of a tower and outriggers, "THIS OLD HATT" is primed for fishing adventures. The cockpit is equipped with a custom tackle center, bait freezer, live bait well, a teak cockpit sole, teak covering boards, and a fighting chair.
