Boat Description

Introducing the LCU-8, a remarkable vessel newly available on the market! Originally built for the U.S. Navy, this LCM-8 "Mike Boat" is in outstanding condition and fully operational. Known for its robust steel hull, the LCM-8 is designed to transport heavy equipment and troops from ship to shore. With an overall length of approximately 73 feet 7 inches to 74 feet and a beam of 21 feet, it has a displacement of about 105 to 111 long tons when fully loaded. The boat is powered by two Detroit 12V-71 diesel engines, delivering a total of 680 hp to twin shafts. It has the capacity to carry one M48 or M60 tank or transport up to 200 combat troops. The LCM-8 achieves a maximum speed of 12 knots when light and 9 knots when fully loaded, with a range of up to 190 nautical miles. This vessel is specifically designed for short-range ship-to-shore operations rather than long-distance travel. It features a standard military fuel capacity of approximately 864 gallons, with some commercial variations accommodating up to 900 gallons. Fuel consumption can vary significantly based on engine performance and load, making it essential to consider when estimating trip costs. The LCM-8 also features a hydraulic bow ramp and was built by Bender Shipbuilding in Alabama. With a gross tonnage of 95 tons and net tonnage of 76 tons, it has a hull depth of 9 feet and provides ample headroom in both the cabin (7 feet) and engine room (6 feet). The vessel is equipped with hydraulic steering and 34" x 24" propellers, making it a reliable and versatile choice for various maritime missions.
