The Bowman 48, crafted by the renowned Chuck Paine, stands as the largest design built in Britain by Rival Bowman Yachts in Southampton. Produced from the early 1990s until 1998, the Bowman 48 became part of Rival Bowman Yachts following a merger, which was later acquired by Rustler Yachts in 2002, continuing the legacy of this remarkable model. This yacht combines Chuck Paine's innovative designs with centuries of British shipbuilding expertise, resulting in exceptional quality and craftsmanship. Over 30 years ago, England was home to some of the biggest and finest ocean sailing vessels, with names like Camper Nicholson, Oyster, and Rival Bowman paving the way for Rustler. The Bowman 48 features advanced elements such as the successful Paine Keel with a bulb-ended endplate and exquisite interior joinery. Notably faster than other designs of its time, it offers a gentle motion, impressive stability, and a forgiving helm. From its inception, the design was optimized with essential gear and tankage, enabling the Bowman 48 to be fully equipped for offshore cruising. It excels in both offshore and lighter coastal conditions. The yacht boasts an integral pilothouse that provides commanding views from the galley and navigation station, avoiding the cramped feel of traditional low-house designs. Rated CE A for unlimited ocean service, only 11 semi-custom Bowman 48s were produced in both aft and center cockpit configurations, cementing its status as one of the finest British yacht designs ever made, known for safety, comfort, and speed in bluewater cruising. 'TACK' is one of the last Bowman 48s, finished to an exceptional standard. It features a classic aft-cockpit design with a forward-facing navigation station, a spacious galley and saloon for its size, two cabins, two heads, and a large workshop/mechanical room. Access to TACK's mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and tankage is straightforward. Under prior ownership, TACK achieved first place among approximately 200 yachts in the 2003 ARC Rally, while a sistership claimed line honors in a later event. The current seller acquired TACK during the winter of 2021 while it was on the hard in Antigua and, as a skilled yachtsman and marine tradesman, undertook an extensive refit of the yacht's systems and aesthetics. Every system was meticulously serviced, often replaced with cutting-edge equipment. After completing this major work, the seller delivered TACK to the Chesapeake Bay for further detailed enhancements by top-notch tradesmen on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Due to changing circumstances, TACK is now available for sale in nearly complete condition post-refit, pending the reinstallation or replacement of some ancillary bluewater cruising gear. A comprehensive list of refit items can be found in the full specifications.
