Designer Insights on the Tartan 365: Performance has always been at the heart of Tartan's design philosophy since Sparkman & Stephens first sketched the Tartan 27 nearly 60 years ago. The new Tartan 365 embraces this legacy while enhancing it. This model is slightly leaner than others in the lineup, featuring a long waterline. Thanks to advanced laminating resins and reinforcements from Tartan's leading infusion process, the 365 is robust yet maintains a moderate displacement of 13,160 pounds, resulting in an impressive displacement-to-length ratio of 164, indicating a swift and sleek design. With a ballast-to-displacement ratio of 38% and a lightweight, sturdy carbon-fiber mast, the 365 promises remarkable stability. By optimizing weight and enhancing stability, this cruiser is powered by an efficient CCR sail plan. The self-tacking jib offers an impressive sail area-to-displacement ratio of 20.8, while the masthead 150% reacher boosts this to a remarkable 29.6. All this performance is packaged in a deck and rigging system designed for exhilarating sailing comfort.
The interior of the Tartan 365 goes beyond the standard offerings of today's mass-produced boats. It features exquisite handcrafted North American maple or cherry wood finishes, solid stock trim, raised panel doors, and a durable teak and holly cabin sole, all showcasing a stunning aesthetic. The two-cabin layout provides ample storage through hanging lockers, drawers, and under-seat spaces. The galley on the starboard side includes a convenient drawer-style refrigerator with an upper freezer and generous countertop space for the chef. To port, a comfortable navigation station doubles as a workspace. The head, located aft to port, includes a separate shower with a door for easy access to the cockpit locker. Thanks to top-notch composite manufacturing processes, the 365 achieves superior sailing performance while ensuring interior comfort and elegance.
On deck, the Tartan 365 allows a cruising crew or racing team to maximize performance, with careful attention paid to ventilation. The spacious cockpit is outfitted with dual custom carbon-fiber steering pedestals, each weighing only four pounds, providing excellent visibility for the helmsman to chase speed or navigate picturesque harbor entries. All sail controls are led to deck-mounted winches through rope clutches, enabling easy adjustments. The wide side decks, double lifelines, and strategically placed handholds ensure safe and effortless movement on deck. With ten opening portlights, four deck hatches, and two dorade boxes with chromed cowls and stainless steel guards, ventilation is unmatched. The 365's deck is designed for comfort, safety, and efficiency.
Equipped with a high-reaching carbon-fiber mast from Tartan sister company AMP Spars, the innovative Tartan CCR rig (Cruise Control Rig) propels the 365's sleek hull with ease. Carbon-fiber is the premier material for masts, and Tartan stands out as the only performance cruising brand that includes a carbon-fiber mast and boom as standard. The lightweight, rigidity, and strength of carbon-fiber enhance stability and minimize pitching, leading to superior performance, safety, and comfort. While others may try to replicate the advantages of a self-tacking jib and off-wind reacher, they fall short without Tartan's commitment to top-notch building practices and carbon-fiber components. The new Tartan 365 is a refined testament to the brand's dedication to performance sailing for those who value exceptional craftsmanship and award-winning design.
