Designer’s Insights: The Tartan 365 builds upon nearly 60 years of Tartan’s design legacy, originally established by Sparkman & Stephens with the Tartan 27 #1. This latest model is leaner than its predecessors, boasting an extended waterline. Utilizing advanced laminating resins and a state-of-the-art infusion process, the 365 is remarkably strong while maintaining a moderate displacement of 13,160 pounds, resulting in an impressive displacement to length ratio of 164 for swift sailing.
With a ballast to displacement ratio of 38% and a robust carbon-fiber mast, the 365 ensures excellent stability. This design allows for an efficient CCR sail plan, featuring a self-tacking jib that achieves a sail area to displacement ratio of 20.8, and a powerful 150% reacher that boosts this to 29.6. All sailing controls are conveniently led to deck-mounted winches, making exhilarating sailing accessible for cruising crews.
The interior of the Tartan 365 stands out from the cookie-cutter production boats of today. It features a handcrafted North American maple or cherry wood finish, solid trim, raised panel doors, and a beautifully finished teak and holly cabin sole. The two-cabin layout offers ample storage options, a well-appointed galley with a drawer-style refrigerator and two-burner LPG stove, and a comfortable navigation station for work or planning. The head compartment includes a separate shower with easy access to the cockpit locker.
On deck, the Tartan 365 is designed for both cruising and occasional racing, with a spacious cockpit equipped with lightweight carbon-fiber steering pedestals. The sightlines are excellent from each steering position, facilitating navigation and performance optimization. Safety is paramount, with wide side decks, double lifelines, and well-placed handholds for secure movement. Additionally, ten opening portlights and multiple deck hatches ensure superb ventilation.
Powered by a high-performance carbon-fiber mast from Tartan's sister company AMP Spars, the Tartan CCR rig enhances sailing capabilities. Tartan is the only performance cruising brand that standardizes carbon-fiber masts and booms, providing superior stability and reduced pitching for a smoother sailing experience. The Tartan 365 is a testament to Tartan's dedication to performance sailing, designed for sailors who value exceptional craftsmanship and award-winning design.
