The Southern Marine Malahide Trawlers are inspired by the robust North Sea Trawlers of the fishing fleets. Crafted by renowned Irish Naval Architect Myles Stapleton, this vessel boasts a sturdy construction with heavy plank-on-frame design, utilizing 2-inch thick Iroko wood secured with 3/8" galvanized steel spikes. The decks are also made of Iroko, set over marine plywood and expertly caulked. Powering this ship is a reliable T-8, 8-cylinder Kelvin Marine Diesel engine that delivers 240 hp at 1,000 RPMs, coupled with a 3 1/2" stainless steel shaft and a 4-blade bronze propeller. The electrical system, upgraded in 2010, operates on 12-24 vdc and is fully functional. The hull was meticulously finished in Portugal and then transported to Dublin, Ireland for outfitting, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship. Accommodations include three spacious double guest staterooms located mid-ship and aft, along with a crew berth at the front. This remarkable vessel, M/V ORINA, has undertaken at least eight voyages through the scenic inside passage across British Columbia and Yukon to Alaska, with her adventures documented in the book "INSIDE THE INSIDE PASSAGE: TRUE STORIES FROM THE LAND OF THE SPIRIT BEAR."
