Crafted by the renowned designer Carl Alberg, the 31 model was produced between 1983 and 1985, making Katahdin one of the later iterations that showcases refined craftsmanship. This classic Alberg design features a full keel and an attached rudder, ensuring exceptional tracking and stability, with ballast that resists grounding, setting it apart from many fin keel boats. With elegant overhangs and a sleek profile, Katahdin boasts a wider beam, providing more interior space compared to her predecessor, the Cape Dory 30. Katahdin is stable, stiff, and kind to her crew in rough seas. Notably, her head is larger and private, located to the port of the companionway stairs across from the U-shaped galley. The interior includes port and starboard settees, with the starboard side converting into a double bed, and ample storage above, behind the backrests, and beneath. The forward stateroom offers a typical double berth with an insert, a dressing area, and privacy with a solid door. A centrally located table with drop leaves allows easy access to the forward cabin while providing a dining area for both sides. The galley is equipped with two deep stainless steel sinks, dry storage, a top-loading ice box, stove and oven, along with numerous cupboards. Katahdin features a keel-stepped mast with a cutter sail plan, granting cruising sailors a variety of options. This boat has only been used in fresh water, and the owners are parting with her due to age. The interior woodwork is stunning, with all systems well-maintained and fully operational. Key features include a 25HP Universal Model 25 Inboard Diesel engine with a 20-gallon fuel tank, a North mainsail (2014) with a brown sail cover and lazy jacks, a North roller furling yankee (2014), and a North staysail (2014). Additional equipment includes self-tacking/club-foot boom with a sail cover, a boom vang, a Schaefer roller furling unit, and a traveler mounted above the companionway. The vessel is fitted with 2 bronze primary Lewmar ST winches and 4 Harken stainless steel winches for mast, boom, and cabin top, along with 3 winch handles. Navigation instruments include a Globe Master binnacle compass, Ray Marine knot meter, depth sounder, apparent wind and wind speed instruments, a VHF marine radio, and GPS. Steering is managed with a wheel and guard, complete with a beverage holder and cover, and a Navico 500 auto pilot. Safety features include bow and stern rails with double lifelines and two gates, a stainless steel transom-mounted swim ladder, a dodger, cockpit cushions, and lockers. The deck is equipped with 2 hatches, 8 bronze opening ports with screens, 2 cowl vents, and a dorade vent. Teak handrails, toe rails, and coamings enhance the boat's aesthetics. The galley includes a double stainless steel sink and an 84-gallon water tank (3 tanks total), with hot and cold pressure water and a water heater. There's an LPG gimbaled 2-burner stove and oven, and top-loading refrigeration/freezer. Power is supplied by 30A shore power with a 35' cord, a dual battery 12v electrical system, and a 110v battery charger, along with full navigation and mast lighting. Safety gear includes 2 fire extinguishers, 6 PFDs, 2 safety harnesses, a life sling, SOS light, radar reflector, and horn. The head features a Groco marine head with a 28-gallon holding tank, head vanity, and shower with a teak flip-up seat. Anchoring is managed with a Delta anchor with rode and chain, a Danforth anchor with rode and chain, and an anchor roller on the bowsprit. Additional gear includes a deck anchor locker, 6+ dock lines, 6 boat fenders, 2 boat hooks, a bos’n chair, and a custom winter cover with framework.
