Introducing CHALIVENTURES III, a Tashiba 40 yacht crafted in 1987 by the renowned Ta Shing Yacht yard in Taiwan. This robust cutter features a canoe stern, full keel, and heavy displacement, making her an exceptional offshore vessel with a cutaway forefoot. Designed by celebrated naval architect Robert Perry, she embodies the ideal characteristics for long-distance cruising: fast, safe, and sturdily built. Perry is famed for his influential offshore designs that played a pivotal role in popularizing global cruising during the 1970s and 1980s.  

CHALIVENTURES III is meticulously engineered as a true cutter, showing excellent speed in both light and gusty winds. She balances easily and is straightforward to reef, providing a smooth sailing experience with light helm pressure at any point of sail. When the conditions become challenging, she offers a comfortable and secure ride. Numerous Tashiba/Baba/Panda 40s have successfully circumnavigated the world, with at least one Tashiba 40 completing a solo journey around Cape Horn under extreme weather conditions.  

Her deck layout prioritizes crew safety, featuring wide side decks, a well-protected and adequately drained cockpit, oversized self-tailing winches, ample handholds, double lifelines, and multiple attachment points for jacklines and safety harnesses.  

Perry himself has called the Tashiba 40 “one of his all-time favorite cruising designs.” (Note: Due to a legal marketing dispute, this design has been marketed under three names—Baba 40, Panda 40, and Tashiba 40. However, all three are identical designs produced in the same Ta Shing shipyard, with variations only in the custom upgrades specific to each buyer's preferences.)  

The current owners, a husband and wife team, have lived aboard for 12 years and have made numerous voyages along the East Coast, from Maine to Florida and the Bahamas, before crossing the Atlantic in 2005. They enjoyed a decade of cruising in the Mediterranean Sea. CHALIVENTURES III comes with an array of spare parts and various accessories designed to enhance the cruising experience. She is being sold with a heavy heart, as the owners, now feeling the effects of age, have decided it’s time to drop anchor and settle permanently near their grandchildren.
