Boat Description

**BECOME A PART OF RACING LEGEND!!!** Established in 1976, the KAAMA Racing Team is celebrated as one of the most accomplished offshore powerboat racing teams in history. With participation in over 70 races, KAAMA earned acclaim not only for its impressive performance on the water but also for pioneering engineering solutions that have truly advanced the performance boat industry. The team featured Betty Cook as the driver, John Connor as crew chief and throttleman, along with various navigators and engineering partner Peter Weismann. At just 52 years old and a grandmother, Betty stood at 5' 4' and weighed a mere 114 pounds. Within three years, she would ascend to World Champion status in Key West. Throughout her career, she celebrated 17 race victories, including 2 world championships and 3 national titles. In the open ocean, everyone—whether a grandmother or a rookie—faced the same challenging conditions. The 38-foot Scarab is among the most iconic hull designs worldwide, renowned for its lightweight construction and astonishing speed. Originally engineered by John Connor as a successor to the Cigarette hull, the first Scarab was built by Larry Smith specifically for KAAMA Racing. Now, after 40 years and a meticulous restoration by Thomas Jewsbury, known for his work on the Miami Vice boat, KAAMA has made a triumphant return—better than ever! Every aspect of KAAMA has been carefully restored to its original state, with some parts custom-made by Jason Saris and his team at Performance Marine, as they are no longer in production. The hull is crafted from Kevlar, the same material found in bulletproof vests, and a stronger fiberglass deck has been constructed to replace the former delicate Kevlar version. The boat can be efficiently operated by two people, though three is ideal—one to drive, another to throttle, and a navigator. Powered by two 572 cid fuel-injected engines (750 HP each) and number three speedmaster drives, KAAMA boasts only 20 hours of run time. Tom is now ready to pass the KAAMA torch and embrace his next adventure. For updates, check out KAAMA's frequently updated Facebook page. You'll find a wealth of articles, websites, and publications about Betty and this incredible boat—just Google it!
