Understanding the '40/30' Rating
If you are new to jet drives, you might hear this motor referred to as a '40/30.' What does that mean?

40 HP Powerhead: The engine itself is Yamaha's legendary 747-cc, 3-cylinder F40 powerhead, generating 40 horsepower at the crank.

30 HP at the Pump: Because a jet pump moves water differently than a traditional propeller, there is a natural loss of efficiency. After the water is pulled up and blasted out the nozzle, the true output thrust at the pump is 30 horsepower. You get the rugged torque of a 40-class block with the shallow-water dominance of a 30 HP jet!
