Boat Description

"Next Chapter" has been docked at Lake Ray Hubbard since 2016, after spending its earlier years in Florida. The previous owner cherished this vessel for 12 years, and the current owner has taken great care of it for the past 8 years, ensuring it receives regular preventive maintenance. The boat is presently in the fresh waters of Dallas, TX. Although designed by Whitby Boat Works primarily for coastal cruising, reviews and articles highlight its robust construction, making it well-suited for open blue waters and extended voyages. Inside, the layout features a stern cabin with its own wet head, a bow cabin that shares a wet head accessible from both the saloon and bow cabin, and a U-shaped galley complete with a 3-burner stove, double sink, and two refrigerators with three opening hatches. The saloon boasts an L-shaped settee on the starboard side and a long settee on the port side, both convertible for sleeping. A fixed table attached to the bulkhead conceals a handy storage area for miscellaneous items. Storage is a standout feature of the Whitby 42, with options available in nearly every nook of the vessel, including numerous storage units and opening hatches for your boating gear and personal belongings. Located on Lake Ray Hubbard, an inland lake about 30 miles northeast of downtown Dallas, the boat can be easily transported to the nearest coastal shore or any desired location, and we can recommend qualified service providers for moving, preparation, and rigging. According to a summary from the September/October 2005 issue of Good Old Boat magazine, the Whitby 42, designed by Ted Brewer, is a versatile 42-foot ketch with multiple configurations that enhance its uniqueness as a production sailboat. Originally constructed at Whitby Boat Works in Ontario, Canada, and later in Fort Myers, Florida, it offers options such as bowsprits, centerboards, or shallow-draft keels, resulting in a range of models with subtle design variations. The Whitby 42 is celebrated for its traditional design combined with modern technology (fiberglass), providing a spacious and seaworthy yacht featuring a large cockpit and ample accommodations below deck, along with practical attributes like a Lehman Ford diesel engine for long-range cruising. While not the fastest or most weather-resistant sailboat, it delivers a comfortable sailing experience, especially on broad reaches in moderate winds. Its traditional appeal, spacious living areas, and adaptability have earned it the affectionate title of "good old boat."
