Boat Description

Introducing Miss Scarlett, a stunning classic and the Grande Dame of the 1000 Islands. This Retro Modern Yacht embodies contemporary ACBY standards, with an impressive investment of over $2 million. At first glance, her size may be misleading; tucked inside a custom boathouse designed specifically for this elegant 52-footer, she reveals her true dimensions. With a graceful low profile, the pilothouse motor yacht captivates the eye. While her 12-foot beam may be considered narrow by today’s standards, it is perfectly suited for Miss Scarlett. Originally built in 1929 by the Gidley Boat Company in Georgian Bay, Ontario, the yacht was crafted with cedar planking over a robust white oak frame. Known as Mona prior to her transformation, she changed hands multiple times from the 1940s to the late 1980s, including ownership by an heiress of The Toronto Star. In 1993, the yacht underwent a remarkable seven-year restoration, led by her owner Scarlett Lynne Hindman, who acquired her in 1988. The name change from Mona to Scarlett was a tribute to her fondness for the film Gone With the Wind, reflected in the vessel's dark green and burgundy color scheme reminiscent of Scarlett O'Hara's iconic dress. Despite being a novice in nautical matters, Ms. Hindman spearheaded an extensive restoration, relocating the yacht to her horse farm in Midland, Ontario. Remarkably, only the wood steering wheel, signal cannon, compass, and brass bell remain from the original yacht. The initial assumption of a minor refit quickly evolved into a major reconstruction, with much of the cedar planking and white oak ribs being replaced. In fact, the original ribs were upgraded to laminated oak, resulting in a significantly stronger hull, which was meticulously sealed in epoxy with modern techniques. Every detail inside Miss Scarlett showcases exceptional craftsmanship, including rich mahogany paneling and custom chrome fittings. The yacht's single screw design is powered by a Detroit 6-71 diesel engine, delivering a leisurely cruise speed of 8 mph and a top speed of 14 mph, making her easy to maneuver with a bow thruster for docking. The unique layout features a forward galley equipped with a propane range, refrigerator, and ample storage, all bathed in natural light from an overhead butterfly hatch. The dining salon accommodates up to eight guests, with a versatile mahogany table that can convert for various uses. The wheelhouse boasts vintage charm with modern navigation equipment, ensuring a seamless boating experience. Down three steps, the passageway leads to a guest stateroom with bunk beds and a separate head, while the owner's stateroom features a queen berth, en suite head, and a makeup table. Throughout the yacht, generous windows and hatches invite sunlight, creating a bright and cheerful atmosphere. On deck, Miss Scarlett is equipped with a variety of amenities including teak decks, a spacious aft area for lounging, and a custom davit system for a classic dinghy. With modern electrical systems, a 12 kW generator, and upgraded safety features, she marries classic elegance with contemporary convenience. The current owner acquired Miss Scarlett in 2010, transforming her hull from white to a timeless dark green, enhancing her classic aesthetic. This yacht is not just a vessel; it's a piece of art, deserving of admiration and perfect for the discerning boater who appreciates its rich heritage and the investment necessary to preserve its elegance.
