The Valiant 50 exemplifies the legacy of Valiant Yachts, known for their exceptional offshore cruising sailboats that marry high performance with robust bluewater durability. Its roots can be traced back to the groundbreaking Valiant 40, designed by Robert Perry in the 1970s, which revolutionized the market by merging a speedy, performance-driven hull with the solid features of a true ocean cruiser, helping to shape the "performance cruiser" category. Building on the success of its predecessors, the Valiant 50 was introduced in the late 1990s, boasting a longer waterline, increased speed, expanded interior space, and improved load-carrying abilities. Each yacht was semi-custom crafted at the Valiant Yachts facility in Gordonville, Texas, often with owners closely involved in the outfitting process. Among the last hulls produced, Hull #114, CANEEL (2007), is a one-owner boat that showcases the design's evolution. It features an elegantly designed cherry interior, a convertible salon berth, and a centerline dining table with built-in storage. Modern amenities include dual-zone refrigeration, a Spectra watermaker, and twin reverse-cycle air conditioning units. The cabinetry in the forward V-berth and structural reinforcements highlight the customization options that Valiant provided for serious passagemakers. The electrical system is expertly crafted, featuring a 7.6 kW generator, a 71hp Westerbeke engine, and insulated hull and plumbing systems designed for long-range cruising comfort. Production of the Valiant 50 ceased with the factory's closure in the late 2000s, concluding a significant era in American yacht construction. Today, Valiant Yachts continues to operate, providing support to Valiant owners worldwide, ensuring these remarkable yachts remain seaworthy and treasured for generations.
