Boat Description

The Southern Marine Malahide Trawlers are renowned for their design inspired by the North Sea Trawlers that served the North Sea fishing fleet. Crafted by esteemed Irish Naval Architect Myles Stapleton, this vessel features a robust construction of heavy plank on frame, utilizing 2-inch thick Iroko wood secured with 3/8" galvanized steel spikes. The decks are also made of Iroko, laid over marine plywood and expertly caulked. Powering the boat is a reliable T-8, 8-cylinder Kelvin Marine Diesel engine that delivers 240 hp at 1,000 RPM. A 3 1/2" stainless steel shaft drives a 4-blade bronze propeller. The boat's electrical system, upgraded in 2010, operates on 12-24 vdc, and all systems on the M/V ORINA are reported to be functional. The hull was finished in Portugal before being towed to Dublin, Ireland for outfitting, where the craftsmanship was exceptional. Accommodations include three spacious double guest staterooms located mid-ship and aft, along with a crew berth at the bow. This remarkable vessel has embarked on at least eight journeys through the scenic inside passage from British Columbia and Yukon to Alaska, chronicled in the book "INSIDE THE INSIDE PASSAGE: TRUE STORIES FROM THE LAND OF THE SPIRIT BEAR." Due to the owner's health, she is now available for sale, and all offers will be considered. While she does require some tender loving care and effort, this is a fantastic opportunity to own a storied and proven ship at a very reasonable price. Additionally, her sister ship, CALYPSO of MALAHIDE, is currently listed for sale on Yachtworld in Palma, Spain.
