"Avalon" is a custom-built vessel crafted by the Shannon Boat Company in Bristol, RI, under the design expertise of Royal Nowell. This model, previously recognized by builders as the Bruno Stillman 35, Harris Cuttyhunk 36, and Nauset 36, features enhancements such as a molded forward chine/spray rail that Nauset incorporated into the original hull design. The boat boasts a solid fiberglass layup below the waterline with a cored structure above, complemented by rounded chines at the stern. Its propeller is safeguarded by a fiberglass keel and bronze shoe, connecting the keel and rudder in a traditional New England Lobster boat style. Inside, the handcrafted interior showcases a blend of classic white surfaces and varnished hardwood joinery, featuring a cabin sole made of solid wood, not veneer, which is meticulously screwed and bunged. Every inch of space has been optimized for storage, with cleverly designed drawers, doors, and lockers. Upon entering the main cabin, you'll find a salon equipped with port and starboard settees flanking a centerline drop-leaf table, with settees that extend for additional sleeping space. Forward in the salon is the lower helm station with a seat to starboard and a companion navigation seat, which includes a flip-up chart table. The backs of both seats fold down to create extra flat surfaces for entertaining or lounging. The efficient U-shaped galley, located to port, maintains connection with the main cabin without feeling isolated. Opposite the galley is an enclosed head, a rarity for boats of this size, featuring a typical toilet, sink, vanity, and a separate stall shower with both electric and manual options, along with a 12v Y-valve and macerator for the holding tank. Forward is the owner's cabin, featuring an offset double berth, a hanging locker, drawers, shelves, and additional lockers. The cabin is equipped with a custom mattress and linens, a brass clock, and new upholstery and exterior canvas added in 2018. Screens are installed for the opening ports and overhead hatch. "Avalon" has also earned multiple platinum awards at the Chesapeake Bay ACBS (Antique & Classic Boat Society) annual event held at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michael's, MD.
