Boat Description

Introducing the 1997 Rozema 50' Custom Aluminum Aquaculture Landing Craft, affectionately named "Jimmie." This purpose-built vessel is designed to be beachable and has been constructed by a yard trusted by the Coast Guard for navigating 35-foot seas. Measuring 50 feet in length, this craft is a product of Rozema Boat Works in Bayview, WA, and is powered by twin 300 hp Mercury outboards. Its aluminum welded hull allows for shallow-draft capabilities, making it ideal for tideland operations. Rozema Boat Works has a rich history of aluminum welding in Padilla Bay since 1955, founded by Alle Rozema who immigrated from Holland. Now, three generations later, his grandsons Dirk and Jason continue the legacy. Notably, the yard recently received a $70.9 million contract from the U.S. Coast Guard to construct heavy-weather rescue boats, underscoring the high standard of craftsmanship that comes with every Rozema hull. "Jimmie" is meticulously designed for shellfish production in tidelands, featuring a landing-craft hull that enables her to ground herself and dry out on gravel during low tide. The twin 300 hp outboards tilt up, preventing damage to the running gear, a crucial feature that distinguishes her as a reliable workboat for the tidelands. Onboard, she boasts a hydraulic boom crane and a full-length conveyor system for efficient cultch distribution. Her large open bulk deck is fenced with stanchion rails and designed to handle substantial payloads, often loaded with shell from rail to rail. The raised pilothouse at the front, equipped with wraparound glass, ensures excellent visibility for close-quarters beach operations. Constructed from bare, unpainted marine-grade aluminum, she is free from gelcoat issues like chalking, blistering, or rot, and can be easily modified by any skilled aluminum fabricator along the coast. Having spent her working life in Hood Canal—one of North America's most productive oyster-growing areas—"Jimmie" is in excellent, well-maintained condition, ready for her next operator. For shellfish growers, marine contractors, or tribal enterprises seeking a reliable beachable production platform, opportunities to acquire boats like this are rare, as Rozema crafts them one at a time and owners typically hold onto them.
