Boat Description
Forest E. was known for his distinctive craftsmanship, having built thousands of iconic wooden powerboats, many of which bore the name "Prowler." The inaugural Prowler was launched in 1948, shortly after Forest E. married Heidi Tutwiler and took her on a boat-racing honeymoon. Throughout his career, many of his boats quickly became beloved classics, attracting a diverse clientele that included rum runners, government agencies, politicians, business moguls, Hollywood stars, and racing enthusiasts. At the peak of the Prowler's success, Forest E. counted celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Sam Snead, Don Aronow, Sam Griffith, and Ernest Hemingway among his friends. Even President Richard Nixon reached out during an economic downturn to check on his favorite boatbuilder's well-being. The 1959 Prowler 24 stands out as one of the most stunning runabouts crafted by this legendary designer, known for its timeless aesthetic and impressive performance. The Marlin features an open cockpit with a cozy cuddy cabin up front and a flush foredeck adorned with teak. Constructed using traditional plank frame techniques, it boasts cedar planking over mahogany frames and a beautiful mahogany superstructure. In 2019, Marlin underwent an extensive 18-month restoration that would surely make Forest Johnson proud. The engine was completely overhauled, and all systems were updated to meet modern ABYC standards. A custom swim platform and additional rear seating were added to enhance the cockpit experience. A new marine head was installed, and the mahogany accents were meticulously stripped, stained, and revarnished. The original hull was reinforced with biaxial fiberglass for added durability, smoothed to perfection, and finished with a glossy AwlCraft paint. Owned by a professional yachtsman and fine vessel dealer, Marlin has been meticulously maintained to ensure it remains in 'Bristol condition,' with no expense spared in its upkeep.
