Boat Description

The Little Harbor 51 Pilothouse stands out among yachts of its size with its unique full-size, live-in pilothouse. This innovative design fulfills two essential functions. Firstly, it houses the entire navigation and charting area, complete with built-in instruments and a comfortable forward-facing seat on the starboard side, allowing the navigator to maintain excellent visibility and easily communicate with the helmsman—ideal for solo or short-handed sailing. In adverse weather, the pilothouse provides a secure command station with 360-degree views, and it even features a full-length berth for overnight stays while sailing at night. Secondly, the pilothouse is equipped with an L-shaped settee to port and an off-center table, offering ample space for up to six people to relax or dine comfortably, creating a unique outdoor-like experience whether at sea or anchored. It boasts excellent natural light and ventilation for warm climates, while also being adaptable for colder weather with rear curtains that can be closed for warmth. The pilothouse provides full headroom throughout, even when transitioning from the aft cockpit. This space includes features typically found only on yachts over 65 feet. A spacious cockpit located behind the pilothouse comfortably seats six, complete with a foldable teak cocktail-dining table and proper foot braces. The helmsman has clear visibility from the outboard aft cockpit seat, positioned conveniently near the steering wheel, and the raised cockpit sole allows even shorter helmsmen to see over the low-profile pilothouse while standing. All sail controls are routed below deck to easily accessible winches, a rarity for aft-cockpit yachts and a significant advantage for short-handed sailing. Below decks, the accommodations are spacious and practical. The owner's stateroom at the front features a large U-berth that can be converted into a king-size double and includes abundant storage with a large hanging locker and numerous drawers. A private owner's head is located to port, with a separate shower stall and additional sink to starboard, making this space a true liveaboard stateroom. The main salon offers a circular seating area for up to seven and a centerline settee that enhances comfort and arrangement flexibility. On the port side, there is a full settee with a convertible pilot berth, perfect for sea berths. The main salon is flooded with natural light from multiple opening hatches and portholes, and it can be further illuminated by optional solid topside windows. The galley, conveniently located to the starboard of the companionway, features a large front-opening refrigerator and a top-opening deep freeze, alongside ample storage for provisions. The guest stateroom to port has two spacious upper and lower berths, ideal for offshore sailing, and a second head with shower can be accessed privately from the guest stateroom or from the companionway. The hull of the Little Harbor 51 Pilothouse is designed for optimal performance with a heavy-displacement, low wetted surface that enhances sailing efficiency. Its long overhangs increase the effective sailing waterline while providing more deck space and a beautiful sheer line. The hull's high-aspect sail plan promotes excellent light air performance, allowing for a smaller, more manageable headsail that improves visibility. This yacht features a keel-centerboard configuration with a moderate shoal draft of just 6 feet, refined for better lift and reduced turbulence. A deep centerboard maximizes upwind performance, while a fully balanced deep rudder ensures easy maneuverability. Designed for cruising sailors who wish to explore shallower harbors, the Little Harbor 51 can be configured with an optional shoal draft of 5 feet, maintaining adequate steering while preventing damage from grounding. The hull and deck are crafted from molded fiberglass using a Vinylester hybrid resin, reinforced with Kevlar for added strength and stiffness. All water and fuel tanks are fiberglass, with structural bulkheads bonded to the hull and deck. The deck quality eliminates the need for maintenance-heavy teak decks, featuring polished stainless steel hardware and a unique molded toerail. The pilothouse has a smooth interior and tinted Lexan windows, while solid American cherry trim and removable fabric-covered overhead panels enhance the interior's aesthetic. The engine and most mechanical systems are stored in a soundproof compartment for easy access, with a dedicated area for tools and a hatch for accessing pumps and compressors.
