Boat Description

The Hawaiian Chieftain is primed for charters, tours, events, educational programs, and sail-training opportunities, with a current Certificate of Inspection (COI) allowing for 42 passengers! A 2024 marine survey and COI are available for review upon request. Recently undergoing a major restoration in Port Townsend, Washington, with over 20,000 hours of professional work, this vessel has been meticulously upgraded to ensure safety and performance. Key restoration highlights include: - Hull and deck repairs, with 40% of the hull below waterline and 20% above waterline replaced. - A new hydraulic steering system and auto-pilot, along with new shafts and bearings. - Engine room enhancements featuring new Cummins engines, resulting in a significant horsepower increase for a maximum cruising speed of 13 knots. - Comprehensive fire suppression systems installed in the engine room and battery bank. - All-new electrical systems, navigation equipment, and galley appliances. Built in 1988 in Lahaina, Maui, the Hawaiian Chieftain is a modern take on a traditional design, featuring a 19th-century trading vessel rig and a contemporary triple keel, making her highly maneuverable in shallow waters. She was commissioned by Laurence Dorcy Jr., designed by Ray Richards, and built by Lahaina Welding Co Ltd. Her maiden voyage to French Polynesia in 1990 showcased her capabilities, followed by years of educational voyages along the West Coast with the Lady Washington. After a brief period under another name, she returned to her original identity in 2006, contributing to educational programs until 2020. In 2021, new owners began an extensive restoration to bring her back to full operational capacity, and she is now available for new adventures! Currently located at the Port of Port Townsend Boat Haven, she is ready for showings by appointment. With nearly all new systems, rigging, and equipment, the Hawaiian Chieftain is set to sail into her next horizon, captivating those who board her!
