Boat Description

Introducing Jewel - Hull #35 of the Kettenburg Pacific Class, a true gem and the pride of her fleet. Jewel stands out as one of the finest examples of the 83 boats ever crafted, showcasing exceptional restoration and maintenance. She was awarded the title of best maintained PC by the San Diego Yacht Club on opening day 2025 and is ready for her next caretaker, having undergone over $250,000 in renovations and is in turnkey condition. **History** Launched in 1939 as 'Irene', Jewel is the final pre-war Pacific Class boat built by Kettenburg Boat Works. After a colorful history with several owners, she was generously donated to the woodworking class at Port Townsend High School. However, a marine surveyor determined she was too ambitious for a school project, leading to her sale. Local boatbuilder Bill Clark acquired her, relocating her to San Diego for a comprehensive restoration. **Renovations by Bill Clark at Clark's Custom Boats, San Diego, CA:** - All ribs replaced with durable ash laminate and encapsulated in West Systems Epoxy. - Deck and house beams upgraded to sapele mahogany. - Seams reworked and reinforced with epoxy-saturated mahogany staves. - Weak planks replaced; entire hull treated with epoxy resin. - Refastened with bronze screws and fitted with new bronze chainplates. - Deck and house lid replaced with Baltic birch ply, reinforced with eGlass and epoxy. - Cabin and cockpit coaming replaced with flame-grained mahogany. **Renovations by Previous Owner (2021):** - Complete repainting of hull and deck using AwlGrip’s epoxy system. - Replacement of all standing and running rigging with high-quality materials. - New interior features including cabinetry, v-berth, and porta-potty. - Enhanced cockpit seating and sole with matching sapele mahogany. - New Quantum sails in vintage-style fabric and a symmetrical spinnaker added. - Extensive bright work finished with multiple coats of Epifanes varnish. **Renovations by Current Owner (2025):** - Installation of new Quantum racing mainsail and jib, along with an asymmetric spinnaker. - Updated all running rigging to low-stretch lines for racing performance. - Added new technology such as a trolling motor, Raymarine autopilot, and lithium battery systems. - Enhanced safety and storage features, including lifejackets and storage bags. - Jewel holds a current ORC racing handicap rating, making her an exciting opportunity for sailing enthusiasts.
