Introducing the stunning Platypus, a 2008 custom-built 20' Custom Carolina center console sport fisherman with a sleek T-Top. This eye-catching vessel has been meticulously maintained and feels just like new. Proudly designed and operated by its sole owner, Platypus is the first hull of B&B Yacht Designs' renowned Ocracoke 20, celebrated in the January/February 2013 issue of Wooden Boat magazine. Recognized for its striking curves and impressive flare, this efficient hull glides smoothly and quickly through the water. Crafted in Bayboro, NC, under the careful supervision of designer Graham Byrnes, this boat boasts a professional rigging by Mobile East Marine in Alliance, NC. With a length overall of 20', a waterline length of 16'4", and a beam of 7'8", it has a draft of 9" (11" when loaded) and a displacement of 2000 lbs at DWL. Weighing just 1350 lbs bare hull and 1715 lbs with the motor, Platypus is both lightweight and robust. Its shallow modified V bottom, sharp entry, and 13-degree dead rise at the transom ensure an unparalleled ride with self-draining scuppers aft. The bow and stern feature casting platforms, and there are compartments on either side for future bait tanks. The hull is finished in a beautiful pastel blue, designed for a smooth, spray-free experience without the need for trim tabs and avoiding chine walking during sharp turns. Built with a 1/2" plywood bottom and utilizing the Ashcroft method for its cold-molded sides, the hull is reinforced with epoxy fiberglass inside and out, featuring 24 oz biaxial glass. Performance-wise, Platypus reaches a maximum speed of 42 mph at 5500 rpm, cruising comfortably at 30 mph (4750 rpm) while consuming just 4 gallons per hour. It is equipped with two independent 25-gallon Moeller belly tanks, each with separate fills, compliant with ABYC, NMMA, and Coast Guard regulations. Electronics include a VHF radio and wiring for GPS, alongside two new West Marine batteries and hydraulic steering. The custom T-Top, with a Stamoid cover crafted by Tarheel Towers, adds to its charm, complemented by bright-finished cherry rails and custom gunwale covers. Powered by a reliable 2006 Honda 90 4-Stroke, Platypus comes with a dual-axle Magic Tilt trailer featuring surge brakes. This boat was uniquely designed to pair with the owner's previously purchased Honda 90, built locally, and has been used sparingly in the Bay River area, always kept on a covered lift or stored indoors during the off-season. The motor has received annual professional servicing, ensuring it remains in excellent condition.
