Boat Description

Introducing the Mary Evans, a robust single oil screw fishing troller built in 1980 by T.R. Slater Boat Works in Salinas, CA, designed by the renowned Edwin Monk. This sturdy vessel measures 53 feet and 2 inches in overall length, with a beam of 18 feet and a draft of 8 feet when fully loaded. Weighing in at 123,900 lbs, it boasts a gross tonnage of 45 GRT and a net tonnage of 34 NRT, all crafted from durable welded steel. Powered by a single Detroit Diesel 8VD71N engine delivering 350 HP, the Mary Evans features a Twin Disc "MGD509" transmission with a 3.03:1 reduction. The propulsion system includes a 3-inch stainless steel tail shaft and a 46RH32 4-blade bronze propeller. The fuel system consists of four tanks, with two saddle tanks in the engine room each holding 400 gallons, while two unused aft tanks are estimated to hold 200 gallons each. Freshwater capacity stands at 300 gallons housed in a steel tank. For power, she is equipped with two diesel/electric generators: an Isuzu (14 KW) and a Northern Lights (20 KW). Accommodations on board include one day bunk and three double bunks, comfortably housing up to six passengers. The boat features a galley and head compartments with two electric toilets and a 30-gallon water heater for convenience. Navigational capabilities are enhanced by a Dirigo binnacle compass, Furuno "Navnet" GPS Plotter, radar, automatic pilot with alarm, depth sounder, and an Icom "IC-M34" VHF radio. An AIS system was recently installed in 2023. On the deck, a single Forefjord anchor with stud link chain and wooden fishing outriggers with hydraulic reel from J.K. Fabrications ensure efficient fishing operations. The steel deck, finished with anti-fouling properties, was last painted in 2022, and the life rails are made of steel on the bridge deck. The Mary Evans was last hauled out in 2022 for maintenance, receiving fresh bottom paint and zincs, along with the addition of a dripless shaft seal. Zinc anodes are fitted to the keel cooler, installed in 2023. Electrical systems provide AC power at 120-240V, 60 Hz, 50 Amp, 3-phase, sourced from shore power or onboard generators. The battery system consists of two 12-volt Series 8DD batteries, supported by a Pro Nautic "1250" charger.
