Boat Description

Introducing the 1951 Chris-Craft 55 Contessa Motor Yacht, a stunning vessel crafted by the renowned Chris Craft, known for its elegance and timeless design. This 55-foot yacht showcases beautiful mahogany wood throughout the aft deck, salon, and stateroom, exuding sophistication. Powered by twin Detroit 671 GMC Diesel engines, each offering 250 horsepower, the yacht is outfitted with a lighting system that provides power and warmth. In 1967, Captain William C. (Bill) Harris acquired this remarkable yacht in Florida, renaming it Wendebee II in honor of his daughters, Wendy and Debbie. Captain Harris navigated the Atlantic Ocean from Florida to New York, traversing the Hudson River, Erie Canal, and the Great Lakes, covering an impressive 4,800 kilometers (3,000 miles) and passing through 33 locks. The Wendebee II was then transported by railway flat cars to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where Captain Harris ran a successful heavy construction company, using the yacht as a private pleasure craft. Over the years, it hosted esteemed guests, including Princess Anne, Prince Charles, and various dignitaries. From 1988 to 2000, Captain Bill operated the yacht as a charter service, providing memorable experiences for weddings, anniversaries, and dinner cruises, even welcoming Princess Anne during her 1999 visit for the Pan American Games. In September 2000, the Wendebee II was purchased by Captain Bill's nephew and transported 725 kilometers to its new home at Lake Diefenbaker, where it was launched with the help of two cranes. With a rich history of catering to distinguished individuals, this yacht is now available for private ownership, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of maritime heritage. Despite its age, the yacht has been meticulously maintained, showcasing gleaming finishes and reliable systems, reflecting the pride of ownership at every turn. More than just a boat, the Wendebee II is a well-preserved piece of history, ready to create unforgettable memories for its next owner!
