Boat Description

Introducing the 1951 Chris-Craft 55 Contessa Motor Yacht, a timeless masterpiece crafted by the renowned Chris Craft. This stunning 55-foot motor yacht is adorned with rich mahogany throughout the aft deck, salon, and stateroom, exuding elegance and classic charm. Powered by twin Detroit 671 GMC Diesel engines, each delivering 250 horsepower, this yacht is equipped with an onboard lighting plant for electricity and heating. In 1967, Captain William C. (Bill) Harris acquired this remarkable vessel in Florida, naming her Wendebee II in honor of his daughters, Wendy and Debbie. Captain Bill navigated her through an incredible journey across the Atlantic Ocean from Florida to New York, traversing the Hudson River, Erie Canal, and the Great Lakes to Thunder Bay, Ontario, covering approximately 4,800 kilometers (3,000 miles) and passing through 33 locks. The Wendebee II was later transported to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where Captain Bill ran a successful heavy construction business and enjoyed using the yacht as a private pleasure craft. Over the years, she has hosted esteemed guests, including Princess Anne and Prince Charles, as well as numerous dignitaries. From 1988 to 2000, Captain Bill transformed the yacht into a charter vessel, hosting weddings, anniversaries, and dinner cruises, while proudly welcoming Princess Anne during her visit for the Pan American Games in 1999. In September 2000, the yacht was purchased by Captain Bill's nephew and transported 725 kilometers to Lake Diefenbaker, where it was launched at Danielson Provincial Park with the help of two cranes due to its substantial weight of 44,000 lbs. This vessel carries a rich history, having served notable figures and events, and is now available for private ownership, presenting a rare chance to acquire a yacht with a distinguished legacy. Despite its age, the Wendebee II has been meticulously maintained, showcasing gleaming finishes and reliable systems that reflect the pride of ownership. More than just a boat, it is a piece of history, perfectly preserved and poised to create unforgettable experiences for its next owner!
