This innovative design originated from a collective of Midwestern sailors who collaborated with Nelson/Marek, and with the expertise of Doug DeVos and Barry Carroll, they brought this exceptional boat into existence. Measuring 10 feet, 9 inches in width, the hull is just shy of the legal trailerable limit, allowing it to be easily transported by a light truck. Once the keel is attached, it can be launched using a 4-ton dry-sail hoist. Weighing approximately 6,000 pounds, it boasts a D/L of 94.4, and features a broader stern than typical IMS designs. The hull design includes a slight rocker in the middle and a distinct kick around station 8, resulting in a near-plumb stem with minimal rear overhang, giving it a similar waterline length to larger vessels like the Valiant 40, but at a fraction of the weight. Equipped with high-aspect-ratio fins for the keel and rudder, the latter appears notably large, promising excellent handling and tracking performance. Sailors accustomed to full keels and skegs may find this boat surprisingly agile. A kelp cutter may be necessary for maintaining the rudder's edge free from marine growth. The rig is a sizable fractional setup featuring a 100-percent jib and 23-degree angled spreaders. Spinnakers are flown from a point between the hounds and the masthead, while the long boom positions the mainsheet traveler behind the rudder head. With a sail area to displacement ratio (SA/D) of an impressive 32.65, this boat does not include a standing backstay.
