Boat Description

Introducing the 50' Santa Cruz 50 '86 "Slip Aweigh" – a remarkable vessel custom-built in 1986 for renowned sailor Hal Roth, designed to tackle the high seas solo during the BOC Challenge, now known as the Vendee Globe. This boat has an impressive racing pedigree, having competed in the 1986-1987 round-the-world BOC Challenge as AMERICAN FLAG, where it covered 27,597 miles in just 171 days, finishing fourth. In preparation for the 1990 BOC race, Hal Roth upgraded the boat to SEBAGO, incorporating a 350-gallon water ballast system that added 3,000 lbs of movable ballast, enhancing its upwind performance by 0.75 knots. Roth chronicled his exhilarating journey in his book, "Chasing the Long Rainbow." The boat gained further acclaim when Anna Stockel acquired it in 1999 and completed a major refit, including a taller mast and wheel steering, leading her to achieve "First to Finish" honors in the 2000 Trans Pac race—all while sailing solo. With numerous custom construction and design features, Slip Aweigh stands out as a unique vessel. This is a fantastic opportunity to own a proven racer and performance cruiser, highly recommended for anyone serious about shorthanded sailing.
