Abeking & Rasmussen Bespoke Motorsailer Yacht 1950

Constructed in 1950 by Abeking & Rasmussen at their Bremershaven facility, Little Vigilant showcases timeless New England lines, designed for Drayton Cochran of New York by the Boston-based Eldridge & McInnis firm. Inspired by a Maine sardine carrier, this vessel is outfitted as a capable ocean yacht. Cochran sailed Little Vigilant across Europe, the Mediterranean, and northern Africa. Its ketch rig allows the masts to lower to deck level, making it easy to navigate under fixed bridges in its cruising areas. After being sold in 1961, the yacht spent 40 years in indoor storage in the UK until it was rediscovered by a dedicated new owner. From 2005 to 2019, this owner undertook a passionate restoration and refit, using Little Vigilant for personal voyages. Enhancements such as air conditioning made Caribbean cruising more enjoyable, while an updated galley modernized the interior layout. With a new engine, a bow thruster, and upgraded controls for the original hydraulic windlass, Little Vigilant is now an ocean-capable vessel that is a joy to maneuver in coastal waters and marinas.
