Custom Carolina Express 2011

Reid Bandy, designer and builder of Bandy Boats in Edgewater, Maryland, showcased their latest hand-built creation, the 27-foot custom Bandy Express Fisherman, in the January 2024 issue of Professional Boatbuilder Magazine. Using state-of-the-art computer design and modern monocoque composite construction techniques, the hull is made of 1-inch Corcell sheathed with hand-laid biaxial glass and epoxy resin, weighing in at 4600 pounds. The boat is fully equipped with Lebroc helm chairs, a 12-inch Furuno Nav Net with a 600-watt flush thru hull transducer, a Standard Horizon VHF, and multiple rod holders, including 8 gunwale mounted, 6 rocket launcher, and 6 below deck. It also has custom tackle storage with a live well, a blaster washdown pump, an insulated bait box, and a Maxwell anchor winch with 25 feet of 3/8-inch chain and 450 feet of 1/2-inch nylon. Safety features include 4 type one life jackets, a flare/signaling kit, and 2 Optimo batteries. The boat has been recently refit, with all decks, cockpit sole, and interior surfaces repainted with Awlgrip. It also features a new 1/4-inch acrylic windscreen with a removable upper panel enclosure, reupholstered helm seats, and new cockpit bolsters. A recent survey has found the boat to be in excellent condition. Running on a 300 horsepower Yamaha engine with only 325 hours, professionally maintained by Accurate Marine, the boat reaches speeds of 26 knots at 2500 RPM and has a fuel efficiency of 3 miles per gallon. Its top speed is 38 knots at 3700 RPM. The boat comes with a Load Right twin axle trailer with a 6000-pound rating.
