Boat Description

**53' Southern Ocean Gallant 53 'Auntie'** **Recent Price Drop: $14,600!** For the cruising enthusiast, this vessel is registered to remain in French Polynesia indefinitely, as long as it returns to the islands before April 2026. The Gallant 53 was crafted by the esteemed yacht designer E.G. Van de Stadt, encapsulating his innovative approach and extensive experience in creating offshore fiberglass yachts, a venture that earned him international acclaim. Widely regarded for its stunning lines and excellent proportions, this design has stood the test of time, still considered one of the most visually appealing ever created. In 1967, the Gallant was honored with the Lloyd’s Register of Shipping 1968 Yacht Trophy, a prestigious accolade recognizing exceptional design, performance, and craftsmanship—an achievement esteemed by designers and shipyards alike. These boats gained a reputation for their striking appearance, robust construction, and exceptional handling in various sea conditions. With ease of management requiring minimal crew, they have become a favorite among sailors. A total of twenty-two were manufactured as either ketches or cutter-rigged sloops by Southern Ocean Shipyard Ltd and Tylers in England between 1967 and 1973. The current owner, a seasoned sailor, has cherished this vessel for 24 years and is the second owner. They embarked on a solo circumnavigation journey from Ventura, California, in December 2014, and made a stop in the Marquesas Islands of French Polynesia in April 2020. Most recently, they successfully completed a challenging solo journey, sailing non-stop upwind from the Marquesas to San Diego.
